after not visiting an eye doctor for over twenty years!

For many years I have known my vision was changing, but I have consistently continued to delay scheduling an eye exam. The last time my eyes were examined was over twenty years ago. My eye health has always been something I put on the back burner. I knew parts of my vision were blurry, but didn’t realize how blurry they actually were. I decided I had put it off long enough, so I called Midwest Eye Consultants to schedule an appointment. I knew if I waited I would never do it. It was great that the office was able to get me in for an eye exam right away instead of having to wait until the following week or longer.
I showed up to my appointment kind of nervous, because I wasn’t sure what the outcome would be. The whole process was so easy and everyone made it so comfortable. After getting checked in and some paperwork completed, I had some tests done. I had a few tests that I remember from the past, but also some new tests. One test I enjoyed was the MPOD test, which was able to assess my risk of developing macular degeneration in the future. I was unaware of the importance of eye exams and overall eye health because it is something I really never thought about. After a few tests, I met with Dr. Lindsay Culver to do a few more tests and see just how bad my eyes really were.
I was blown away by how bad my vision was and the prescription I received in my lenses. It wasn’t until she had the lenses in front of me that I truly realized what a great decision it was to schedule an appointment. Dr. Culver explained everything to me in detail and made the whole experience so comfortable. I thought the difficult part was over, but I was wrong. Now I had to pick out frames. I knew there were going to be options, but never knew there were so many. There might have been an overwhelming amount of options, but having someone walk me through the selection of frames was such a great experience. The optician showed me different lens styles and which would work best for me, which made the decision a lot easier than anticipated.
I was more than happy with my eyewear selections! After my whole process I really looked more in depth into eye health. I have read so many articles about the importance of eye health because of the effect it has on your overall health. The healthier your lifestyle is, the better your eye health will be. People who smoke, are overweight, have diabetes, etc., can suffer from poor eye health. This is something I decided to change in my life in 2012, but I didn’t realize my lifestyle change would impact my eyes for the future.I am glad I chose to schedule an appointment with Midwest Eye Consultants. The experience was incredible from the moment I checked in to the moment I picked up my glasses. All of the employees were the main ingredient to such a great experience – the receptionist to the doctor to the eyewear specialist. I’ve been asked many times about my experience and I did not hesitate to recommend scheduling an appointment with Dr. Culver or any of the other doctors at Midwest Eye Consultants!
I look back to my life eight years ago and think about how a healthy lifestyle was far from my focus. I did not realize how important a healthy lifestyle really was. I was weighing in at close to 600lbs. There was nothing good coming from how I was living. I knew I had to make a change and focus on myself and my health. I began a journey to lose weight in April of 2012. I knew how living a healthy life is important to my overall health, eyes, muscles, joints, etc. After two years I had lost 300lbs through making healthy choices and working out. I put my health first in my life now, I really focus on the foods I put into my body. I know the many years of me being overweight took a toll on my body, so I am now trying to make up for those years.
